JAZZPAR Artists - Tomas Franck

   Tomas Franck (S), b. Oct. 14, 1958, JAZZPAR Artist 1990, 1991 and 1994.
Performed with Jens Winther's JAZZPAR Group feat. Al Foster at the 1991 Event.
Performed with Thomas Clausen's JAZZPARticipants featuring Prize Winner Roy Haynes at The JAZZPAR 1994 Event.

In the mid-80s Tomas Franck took up residence in the Danish capital Copenhagen, where he has performed and recorded with many of the leading jazz musicians, mainly the young post-boppers. More and more people realize how authoritative and dynamic Franck's offerings are. He builds his solos with ease and unfailing mastership, expressing thought and concentration as well as a burning intensity. With Young, Parker, and Gordon as ballast, he obviously belongs to the horde of John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter disciples. But unlike the majority that just imitates these models he uses them as a reference, adding a specific Scandinavian turn. This tenor saxophonist, bandleader and composer has few peers on today's European jazz scene.
