JAZZPAR Artists - Jørgen Emborg

Jørgen Emborg (DK) - b. March 29, 1953 at Frederiksberg - performed with Jørgen Emborg Quintet feat. Steve Swallow: Fredrik Lundin (ts/ss), Jørgen Emborg (p), Steve Swallow (b-g), Lisbeth Diers (perc), Alex Riel (d) at The JAZZPAR Event 1992.

Since Jørgen Emborg first appeared on the Danish jazz scene in the 1970s, he has established himself as one of the country's most talented musicians. Emborg has worked in trio context, with various jazz combos – often under his own name, as a member of the celebrated Danish Radio Big Band, and also in fusion groups from the field between jazz and rock, in some cases including female vocalists of national renown. Furthermore, he has a number of times been backing international soloists.
Emborg has composed music for radio and TV and can be heard on a number of successful albums. Frequently, Emborg's works are played and sometimes recorded by other groups. In later years, bands from neighboring countries have taken advantage of Emborg's abilities. He is attracting considerable attention at concerts and festivals abroad. No wonder that he has won a handful of national as well as international jazz prizes.
In a country with a rather strong piano jazz tradition Emborg is far and away one of the best. A well assimilated Keith Jarrett influence being the starting point he has developed into an original player combining a dancing spontaneity with perfectionist general ideas. As few contemporary band leaders and jazz composers Emborg is capable of integrating widely different elements into a both variegated and coherent whole. He has an exceptional gift for writing distinctive and original lines, not easy to hum but hard to forget.
