Jens (Christian) Søndergaard (DK) - b. February 4, 1945 in Copenhagen - was JAZZPAR Concertmaster 1992 featuring Prize Winner Lee Konitz and his nonet.

Since the 1960s the alto and baritone saxophonist Jens Søndergaard has played with leading Danish groups in almost any style. After a while Art Pepper became his main inspiration. Then in 1986, Søndergaard began fixing up Danish tours and clinics for Lee Konitz. Playing many jobs together, the Danish musician soon came under the spell and the discipline of the American innovator. Then slowly but surely he developed his own voice, marked by forthright swing, a certain flow and that inner logic which characterizes the born jazz player.
   Furthermore, Søndergaard has been active arranging various jazz events and fighting to place this music on an equal footing with other parts of Danish cultural life.
