Django Bates' Human Chain was first a duo, drummer Steve Argüelles (JAZZPAR Artist 1995) being the other member. Over the years the group has evolved into the regular close-knit and much-lauded quartet of today. During JAZZPAR 1997 and at Bates' suggestion, the young Swedish singer Josefine Cronholm, whom Bates discovered at The Copenhagen Rhythmic Conservatory October 1996, joined Human Chain.
