Versatile Conners has been active in almost all categories of American music. 12 years old he became a professional musician. Went to New Orleans at 14 and played with Bunk Johnson and Papa Celestin. Was nicknamed "Mighty Flea" by Lionel Hampton as the youngest member of the latter's band. Conners played with his own groups in the early 1950s. Joined The Count Basie Organization in 1958. From 1960 a long term cooperation with Johnny Otis. In the same period he recorded with numerous prominent jazz and R&B stars. Conners has lived more than 10 years in Germany. As a guest soloist with the Fessor and Peter Nissen bands his powerful trombone as well as his emotional singing has often been enjoyed by enthusiastic Danish audiences. |
